Nepal national women’s cricket team is set to participate in the Woman T20 Smash organized by the Cricket Association of Thailand (CAT) from 11 to 19 January in Thailand.
The former chief executive officer (CEO) of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and current International Cricket Council (ICC) representative for Nepal Bhawana Ghimire confirmed the national team’s participation on Thursday.
Women’s team from Hong Kong, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bhutan, Myanmar, Namibia and Malaysia will also join Nepal in a 10-team T20 event along with Thailand’s A team.
Group A consist of Nepal, UAE, Namibia, Malaysia and Thailand A whereas Group B will see host team Thailand, Indonesia, Bhutan, Hong Kong and Myanmar tussle to qualify for the next round. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals.
The head coach for the team or women players to represent the side in Thailand are announced yet.
The head coach of national men’s cricket team Jagat Tamata assured that players will be selected once the coaches and other staffs are finalized for the event by the ICC.
The tournament is seen as ideal opportunity for women teams to participate before the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifiers (Asia Region) scheduled for February in 2019.
