The health condition of Dr Govinda KC has further deteriorated since Saturday night. Medics involved in his treatment at the Jumla based-Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS), where the anti-corruption crusader has been on a hunger strike since June 30, said he is suffering from low blood pressure, respiratory problems and irregular heartbeats. He also has cough and throat ache due to infection.
Doctors face the challenge of saving his life as the orthopaedic surgeon has refused medicines. KAHS Medical Director Dr Pujan Rokaya said they have the necessary medicines and equipment ready, in case of an emergency. “Ventilator and defibrillator are on standby as Dr KC has developed irregular heartbeat.”
Protests in support of fasting doctor’s demands People of Jumla continued their agitation on Sunday in support of the fasting surgeon. Civil society leaders, party supporters and traders, among others, demonstrated at the district headquarters, pressing the government to save his life by addressing his demands.
