Sandeep Lamichhane has taken his tally to five wickets in four matches for Montreal Tigers in their fourth defeat in five matches in the ongoing Global T20 Canada League held at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, Toronto, Canada. Tigers lost their final league match against Toronto Nationals by a wicket on Monday. The leg-spinner from Nepal chipped in with wickets of Canadian players Nitish Kumar and Navneet Dhaliwal to take his total to five in the tournament.
Having invited to bat first Tigers made 176 runs in their 20 overs with contributions from Kiwi George Worker (62) and Aussie Moises Henriques (50) for the loss of four wickets. Nationals completed the chase in the last ball of the match with match-winning cameos from Kiwi Anton Devcich (43), Nitish (46) and West Indian Kieran Pollard (37). Aussie Peter Siddle and Sri Lankan Lasith Malinga picked three wickets each for Tigers but could not prevent the defeat.
Lamichhane conceded 34 runs in four over spell picking up two wickets with well disguised wrong’uns. Nitish Kumar was caught by marauding Sunil Narine in deep square-leg boundary whereas Dhaliwal was brilliantly stumped by West Indian wicket-keeper Dinesh Ramdin in the last ball of his spell.
Tigers will play their Round 2 match on Tuesday against table-toppers West Indies B.
